BNP is associated with an increased mortality rate independent of age, Troponin-I, and presence and absence of heart failure, renal insufficiency and ST segment deviation. Brain Natriuretic Peptide is markedly increased in chronic and acute congestive heart failure patients and correlates with disease severity.
